LËK SÈN

Lëk Sèn a grandi à Ngor, un village de pêcheurs près de Dakar, au Sénégal. Hanté par le chant depuis sa plus tendre enfance, il s’exprime en rappant au sein du groupe de musique SSK, avec lequel il a été finaliste du Prix Découverte RFI en 2007. Lëk Sèn entame en 2010 une carrière solo. Avec des débuts dans un style plutôt hip-hop, son univers actuel gravite davantage autour de la folk et du reggae.

En octobre 2010, sur le label Makasound, Lëk Sèn sort « Burn », un opus aux parfums folk et reggae soutenu par France Inter. Pour la réalisation, il a fait appel à de talentueux artistes, dont Boubacar Dembélé (Amadou & Mariam), Kiddus I (légende du reggae jamaïcain des années 1970), Mehdi Haddad (Ekova, Speed Caravan), Julia Sarr (Lokua Kanza, Youssou Ndour, Femi Kuti…), ou encore Jeff Kellner (Souad Massi, Tony Allen). Le titre « Rebel Blues » extrait de l’album Burn a été choisi pour la bande originale du film « Safe House », un thriller réalisé en 2012 par Daniel Espinosa, avec Denzel Washington et Ryan Reynolds.

Son 2d album, « Tomorrow » (Demain), sorti le 28 janvier 2013 chez Chapter Two / Wagram, est un album aux parfums reggae, folk, blues, réalisé avec Yvo et Miguel de Station Louxor (production), et à FX (ingénieur du son). On y retrouve le guitariste Amadou Bagayogo, la chanteuse Julila Sarr (choriste de Youssou Ndour, Femi Kuti, Lokua Kanza) ou encore le légendaire chanteur jamaïcain Clinton Fearon (ancien bassiste et chanteur des Gladiators). Sans oublier Stafford Harrison du groupe américain Groundation.

« Les productions de cet ex-rappeur Sénégalais, tutoient l’afro-blues, le folk, le reggae et parfois l’afrobeat. Acoustique, son style ne ressemble à aucun ; authentique, il a la force et le mystère du « désert blues » Africain. Après un premier album soutenu par France INTER et salué par l’ensemble des critiques de Musique du Monde, le jeune chanteur à la voix éraillée prépare un nouvel opus … »

Depuis 2013, Lëk Sèn enregistre sous le pseudo Puppa Lëk Sèn avec son propre label de production appelé Jahsen Creation et navigue entre Reggae, Dancehall, Urban Blues et Afro-folk. Un puissant et savant mix de rythmes modernes et traditionnels, toujours encensé par « Ocora Couleurs du monde » sur Radio France et plusieurs autres médias reggae.

En 2022 : Lëk Sèn a 6 albums / 5 EPs en ligne et de nombreuses victoires à son actif : Tomorrow : classé « 2d Reggae music award 2014 », catégorie « Album reggae africain de l’année ». Sweet & Tuff : « Album of the year 2015 » Reggaeville. Jam dong : « Album de l’année 2015 » Reggaeville + « Les victoires du reggae 2015 » Reggae fr + Kayaman « Prix du public » Irie Magazine USA.

Ce sont les conditions humaines en Afrique qui le font chanter, sa musique est militante et authentique. Missionnaire, il continue de transmettre la culture Rasta aux nouvelles générations. Ses paroles prônent le discours pour l’union Africaine et la paix dans le monde. Sur scène, Puppa Lëk Sèn est « magnétique ». Chacun de ses lives captivent l’attention des plus jeunes aux plus anciens. Sa voix puissante, rauque et virile rappelle les PROFONDEURS DU DÉSERT tandis que son style rappelle celui de cette « GÉNÉRATION AFRICAINE CONSCIENTE » qui rêve de liberté ! En un mot, tout le monde a flairé la perle rare !

Lëk Sèn grew up in Ngor, a fishing village close to Dakar, in Senegal. Haunted by singing from early childhood he expresses himself by rapping within the SSK music band. Their style develops as they grow up and they start in February 2006 a collaboration with the Louxor Station musicians from Paris. This common work was rewarded with the album release « Jog Bala Nacc » in Senegal in 2007 in partnership with the association Video KIDAM (Paris) and Radio Nostalgie Dakar, as well as with their selection to participate to the finale of RFI 2007 Prix Découvertes.

Based since then in Paris, Lëk Sèn works on his own guitar compositions, in a more acoustic style with afro-folk-blues sounds and tinted with his sound and touching voice. His first album « Burn » is released in October 2010 on Makasound label. Written jointly with Lëk Sèn, Yvo Abadi, Miguel Saboga and Adrien Behler, the album gathers also some prestigious and inspired musicians, such as Julia Sarr (Lokua Kanza, Youssou N’dour, Femi Kuti…), Mehdi Haddad (Ekova, Speed Caravan), Jeff Kellner (Souad Massi, Tony Allen…), Boubacar Dembélé (Amadou et Mariam), or Kiddus I (Jamaican reggae legend from the 70’s). Spotted by and selected by France INTER the album will benefit from very good reviews from the BBC to Mondomix, RFI and Vibrations, placing immediately the young singer as an original and essential artist for the current productions.

In 2012 the young Senegalese continues his musical venture with a new album « Tomorrow » foreseen for 28 January 2013 on Chapter Two / Wagram label. Always surrounded at production by Yvo and Miguel from Louxor Station, as well as FX, sound engineer. Will be present the musicians from his first album, with some nice guests such as the guitarist Amadou Bagayogo, the singer Julila Sarr or the legendary Jamaican singer Clinton Fearon, to name a few, but also featuring Blitz The Ambassador or Harrisson Stafford (Groundation).

Since 2013, Lëk Sèn records under the pseudo Puppa Lëk Sèn with his own production label called Jahsen Creation, and explores Reggae, Dancehall, Urban Blues and Afro-folk. A powerful and clever mix of modern and traditional rhythms, always praised by « Ocora Couleurs du monde » on Radio France and several other reggae media.

It’s the Human being conditions in African make Puppa Lëk Sèn sing, his music is engaged and genuine. Like a missionary, he continues to transmit Rasta culture to new generations. His lyrics plead for an African unity and peace in the world.

On stage, Puppa Lëk Sèn is ‘magnetic‘. Each of his live performances captivates the attention of young and old alike. His powerful, husky and virile voice is reminiscent of the depths of the desert, while his style is reminiscent of that of the « Aware African Generation » who dreams of freedom!
