L’HISTOIRE DE L’ESSENCE DE WHITNEY RACONTÉE PAR GENNINE FRANCIS ELLE-MÊME

Cela a commencé en 2002 lorsque j’ai commencé à jouer dans diverses salles de la région de Palm Springs. Je suis rapidement devenue connue comme la chanteuse qui ressemble et sonne comme Whitney Houston et à cette époque, j’étais constamment approchée pour faire des tribute shows à Whitney, ce que j’ai toujours gracieusement refusé. Environ un an après le décès de Whitney, un grand nombre de mes supporters, fans et clients ont commencé à me dire instamment que « le moment est venu de faire un hommage à Whitney Houston ». Même mon mari, Chris (le sceptique), m’a dit que je devais prier sincèrement à ce sujet parce que lui aussi sentait que c’était le moment.

Je ne voulais pas m’engager dans la prière parce que j’avais peur de la réponse. Ma pensée était que tant que je ne suis pas consciente que je suis censée faire cela, je peux continuer à dire non ; mais si je prie à ce sujet et que le Seigneur dit « oui », alors je ne peux pas dire non.

L’idée de faire un concert hommage à Whitney Houston m’a terrifiée parce qu’elle a d’énormes shows ; les nombreuses ballades puissantes et les tubes n ° 1 qu’elle a chantés étaient un peu trop pour moi. Cependant, mon public pensait différemment… et le Seigneur aussi. Alors me voici, obéissant au Dieu que Whitney et moi servons.

Les 18 et 19 octobre 2014, nous avons lancé le concert hommage « The Essence of Whitney » au Indian Wells Theatre de Palm Desert, en Californie. J’ai eu l’honneur et le privilège de travailler avec le directeur musical de Chaka Khan ainsi qu’avec de nombreux musiciens qui ont fait une tournée avec Whitney. Les critiques ont adoré. Les fans ont adoré. J’ai adoré. Ce fut une formidable collaboration d’efforts et de talent, et j’ai réalisé que je pouvais, en fait, honorer l’héritage de Whitney Houston.

Le 9 septembre 2017, j’ai donné notre concert au Cashman Center Theatre de Las Vegas, puis le 16 février 2019, The Essence of Whitney était à guichets fermés au Fox Performing Arts Center à Riverside, en Californie !

Les critiques ont afflué et les commentaires ont été écrasants : « formidable », « d’un autre monde », « incroyable », « incroyable », « phénoménal » et « magique ». Je peux seulement dire que j’ai les meilleurs fans du monde !

Le dernier concert en date a eu lieu au Rancho Mirage, California à l’Agua Caliente Resort Spa Casino le 22 juillet 2022.

THE HISTORY OF THE ESSENCE OF WHITNEY TOLD BY GENNINE FRANCIS HERSELF

It began back in 2002 when I began performing at various venues in the Palm Springs area. I quickly became known as the singer who looks and sounds like Whitney Houston and I am constantly being approached to do Whitney look alike/sound alike performances, which I have always graciously declined. About a year after Whitney’s passing, a great number of my supporters, fans and clients earnestly began urging me that « now is the time to do a Whitney Houston Tribute.” Even my husband, Chris (the skeptic), expressed to me that I should earnestly pray about it because he, too, felt that it was time.

I did not want to commit it to prayer because I was afraid of the answer. My thought was as long as I am unaware that I am supposed to do this, I can continue to say no; but if I pray about it and the Lord says « yes », then I can’t say no.

The thought of doing a Whitney Houston tribute concert terrified me because she has huge shoes to fill; the numerous power ballads and #1 hits she sang felt a bit too much for me. However, my public thought differently…and so did the Lord. So here I am, being obedient to the God that both Whitney and I serve(d).

On October 18th and 19th of 2014, we debuted “The Essence of Whitney” tribute concert at the Indian Wells Theatre in Palm Desert, California. I was honored and privileged to work with Chaka Khan’s Musical Director as well as many musicians who actually toured with Whitney. The critics loved it. The fans loved it. I loved it. It was a tremendous collaboration of effort and talent, and I realized I could, in fact, honor the legacy of Whitney Houston.

On September 9, 2017 I performed our concert at the Cashman Center Theatre in Las Vegas, and then on February 16, 2019, The Essence of Whitney was a sell out at The Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside, California!

The reviews poured in and the comments were overwhelming: “tremendous”, “otherworldly”, “amazing”, “incredible”, “phenomenal”, and “magical”. I can only say that I have the best fans in the world!

The latest show took place at Rancho Mirage, California at The Show at Agua Caliente Resort Spa Casino on Friday, July 22, 2022.
